World Book Day 2026 at Uphall Primary School: A Celebration for Everyone!
Celebrate the joy of reading with us on Thursday, 5th March 2026. This year, Uphall Primary School is embracing the magic of stories with a focus on comfort, creativity, and community.
Whether your child loves full costumes or prefers a cozy day in their favorite “reading clothes,” there is a way for every student to join the fun.
Theme: Pyjama Day!
We are turning the school into the ultimate reading nook. Students are invited to come to school in their pyjamas or comfiest reading clothes.
- Why Pyjamas? We want to showcase the habit of reading for pleasure in its most natural form—relaxing at home!
- Donation: We kindly suggest a £1 donation to support our school library and literacy initiatives.
✨ Alternatives to Traditional Dressing Up
We know that full costumes aren’t for everyone. At Uphall, we believe World Book Day should be stress-free and accessible. If your child doesn’t want to dress up, they can participate through these fun classroom activities:
- Draw a Role on the Wall: Children will draw around each other’s silhouettes and decorate them to represent their favorite book characters.
- The 10-Minute Cardboard Challenge: We’ll be using our “low-cost dressing up packs” to create instant accessories in class.
- Decorate the School: Help us transform our classroom windows and doors into scenes from famous stories.
- Book Spoons & Potatoes: Get crafty! Students can turn ordinary spoons or potatoes into miniature book characters for our school display.

💡 Information for Parents
By moving away from expensive, one-use costumes, we hope to make World Book Day more sustainable and affordable for all our families. Please ensure that pyjamas are appropriate for the school day (including sturdy footwear for playtime) and that children still bring their coats for outdoor break times.
Let’s make 2026 our most creative World Book Day yet!
