Social media is a modern form of communication that is used across the internet. People can have conversations, share information and create web content across the various social media platfroms. Social media comes in many different forms, including blogs, micro-blogs, wikis, social networking sites, photo-sharing sites, instant messaging, video-sharing sites, podcasts, widgets, virtual worlds, and more.
Many of these platforms can contain, intentionally or otherwise, material that is unsuitable for children. Also the social media environment is generally populated with anonymous users. This limits the ability to know who your child is talking to and if that person at the other end is who they say they are.
To combat this, most social media services have implemented minimum age restriction for their users.
The children at Uphall Primary School should not be using most social media services as they do not meet the minimum age restrictions
