What is EYFS?
EYFS (Early Years and Foundation Stage) is a very important phase in your child’s life preparing them for future learning and success. EYFS at Uphall aims to be a happy, active, exciting, fun time in a secure environment supporting your child’s development and learning needs.
At Uphall we follow the EYFS Framework 2012 www.foundationyears.org.uk. The framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their development. Children learn skills acquire new knowledge and demonstrate understanding through the seven areas of learning and the characteristics of effective learning.
The prime areas of Personal Social Emotional Development, Communication Language, Physical Development feed into the specific areas of the curriculum.
At Uphall we use Letters and sounds alongside ‘Read Write Inc’ phonics programme to promote speaking and listening skills, phonological awareness, oral blending and segmenting. This is to ensure all children develop fluent word reading skills and have good foundations in spelling.
